Winter 2018 in Lake Havasu

Great to be back in the desert again.  Fun to catch up with our neighbors and Blender friends that visit the park during the season.

Did a quick one week FMCA rally to Tucson in February with 6 other RV's but otherwise we stayed in Lake Havasu.  Lots to do here.  Kirby's came up from Yuma for the Pyrotechnic Convention in January.  It was not as spectacular as last year but still a show.  We also got a visit from the Marshall's on their way home.  Got a chance to take them on a boat ride up to the Gorge.

We had our first bonfire and dinner out on the desert this year.  Hot clam chowder soup and wieners on the fire.  Of course we had some libations too!

My sister's Joanne and Margaret (and husbands) both came from Oregon and Texas for the month of April and rented a house in town.  Lots of boat days and local tourist sites to visit.

My nephew Kelly and his family also came for a week and we were on the boat a lot while Kelly ran up and down the lake catching big mouth bass.  All his fish are released back into the lake for another day.

We got to take boat rides to both ends of the lake and have fun in the funny seats at Topock restaurant.

For the first time we were here for the annual Desert Storm event.  The big, big boats come to town for several days.  They are on display on Main street one day, they parade thru the channel another day and then have races the final day.  It was really something to see.  The lake went from slightly busy to massively busy!!  We were lucky to get a spot on the channel for the parade of boats and got lots of pictures of the big boats.  Some have 3000 horsepower and are as long as 52 feet!
4 400 hp engines!
Sadly, one of the big boats called Lickety Split hit a wave and then went air borne 50 ft and then sunk to the bottom.  Two men died at the scene and one woman died several days later.  Awful.

Always lots to do in Havasu...here is one yearly event.  Buses on the Bridge.  They even shut down the London Bridge for the old VW's to drive across together.

As the desert heated up the various cactus have started to bloom and they are putting on quite a show.
Staying until May was a good decision.  We had lots of boat days as the weather warmed.  Plan on staying longer again next year.

On our last week in Havasu, a jet overran the runway and crashed.  No one hurt!  It is a mile from us.

Alert!  Last couple of days we were there, we traded in our pontoon boat for a new one that is a tritoon and has 150HP....yippee.  It goes fast.

Looking forward to next year!!  Come and see us!!
