New Home in Lake Havasu

News from the Jewells!

We have been coming to Lake Havasu for 25 years.  It was just for a couple of weeks each winter when we were still working.  Now that we are retired, we visit it in January on the way to visit friends in Yuma and then spend a few weeks in late March before heading home.

We have entertained buying here in the past. We have looked at homes with RV garages and smaller homes.  Recession hit this area hard and a few years back we could have picked up a place pretty cheap.  Not anymore, the town has rebounded.  Lake Havasu City has tons of things to do in the winter.  Every January there is a 4 day firework extravaganza and a hot air balloon festival.

In February there is the Rock a Billy festival and "Buses at the Bridge" (200+ VW buses).
The Easter break has all the college kids there showing off their thongs and pasties!  Car shows 2x a month at least.

So plenty to do in addition to the Lake and the Colorado River!

We decided to buy an RV lot at Havasu RV Resorts.   Last summer had a "casita" built on it and we will most likely spend the majority of the winters here.  The casita has a bathroom, W/D, and a small room with a futon for visitors.  The resort has two large pools, spas, bocci, horseshoes and lots of planned activities too.
Our RV friends should know that there are many owners here that rent their lots out.  So click on this link to view the lots for rent and come down and see us!  http://havasurvresort.org/

We always said that if we bought in Havasu we would HAVE to have a boat and so we do!
A 22 foot Sun Tracker pontoon boat.
Randy and Judy, Joe and Moe and Sally and Howard were there in early March.  They were the first to go out on the lake with us.  They all have lots of boating experience so we had lots of help.  We explored the lake near Parker Dam and found two good restaurants for us to visit.

Later in March, we were lucky enough to have more friends drop by and go boating with us;  Patty and Kent.   Again, they know how to boat.  We went south to the Parker Dam and north up the Colorado River thru the Topock Gorge.  Walt fired up our little bar ba que and fixed us some yummie lunch.
We also took a little trip to Oatman, Az.  It is an old mining town that has lots of wild burros wandering around.  The miners turned them loose when the mine closed in WWII and they are all around the Colorado River valley.

The gorge is beautiful!

We saw wild burros too!
Peggy and Charlie Marshall were able to stop by the end of March but didn't have enough time to go boating.  Next year!

Kelli and John were the late arrivers.  We went up the gorge and checked out the Resort and Restaurant called Pirates Cove.

Towards the end of March,  the Resort homeowners sponsored a "street dance" at the resort.  Nice band and street dancing. Line dancing is a favorite here.  We might have to learn how to do that.  Everyone brings their chairs, food and beverage and it was a lot of fun.

We love our little casita.  We named it "La Casita de las Joyas".....the little house of the Jewell's.  Our neighbors are lots of fun and we are already looking forward to next winter.  Come down and see us some time!
